We're rethinking pricing on a new project. Free tier with limits vs 14-day trial with full access — both make sense on paper.

Free tier seems better for SEO and word-of-mouth (more users means more inbound). Trial probably converts a higher % of those who sign up.

Who's run the experiment with hard data?

From my consulting work: free tier wins for acquisition (lower friction, organic growth), trial wins for revenue per signup.

If your CAC is low and product is fundamentally sticky, free tier compounds. If your CAC is high (paid ads), trial is the only way the math works.
